AIR PEACE CONTROVERSY: OSHIOMHHOLE REVEALS WHY HE CAUSED A SCENE AT MMA

Former Governor of Edo State and current Senator, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has given insight into the controversy that trailed his appearance at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, Zulu Hall, on Wednesday morning. Oshiomhole revealed that the commotion was sparked by Air Peace’s decision to prevent passengers who had checked in online from boarding a flight to Abuja while allegedly reselling seats at inflated prices to others on the spot. According to Oshiomhole, he had booked a flight with Air Peace and checked in online, but was prevented from boarding the flight despite arriving at the airport on time. “I got there at about five minutes past six. They told me the counter was closed. I told them, ‘No, I’ve already checked in.’ I showed them the evidence of my online check-in,” he said. Oshiomhole alleged that Air Peace was selling tickets on the spot at higher prices to other passengers, while denying boarding to those who had booked online at lower rates. “They were selling tickets on the spot for between N200,000 and N300,000. To take advantage of the situation, they discouraged those who had bought tickets online at lower rates and sold to people willing to pay more,” he said. A passenger, a lady, was allegedly told she was late for check-in despite arriving at the airport before 6:00 a.m. “They told her she would have to wait for the next flight. Meanwhile, the airline was selling tickets on the spot for between N200,000 and N300,000,” Oshiomhole said. He claimed that the lady would have to pay an additional N109,100 to board the next flight, bringing her total cost to N256,000. Oshiomhole said he had to intervene and send the lady N500,000 to help her. “I had to send that woman N500,000. That’s basically what happened. I told them this cannot be allowed. I checked in online and arrived on time. The aircraft hadn’t taken off. I’m not supposed to check in twice,” he said. The senator’s account of the incident sheds light on the controversy that trailed his appearance at the airport, where he was seen in a heated exchange with an airport official.

OSHIOMHHOLE CAUSES CHAOS AT LAGOS AIRPORT AFTER MISSING FLIGHT

Former Edo State Governor and current Senator Adams Oshiomhole caused a major disruption at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s Zulu Terminal in Lagos after missing his 6:30 am Air Peace flight to Abuja. The senator arrived at the airport around 6:10 am, but the boarding process had already closed, and the flight had departed on schedule. In a shocking display of entitlement, Oshiomhole blocked the terminal entrance, preventing other passengers from accessing the departure hall. He even went as far as sealing the entry gate and manning the access point, causing significant delays for other travelers. Air Peace staff reported that the senator physically assaulted them during the altercation. “We are deeply saddened that such a high-profile figure displayed conduct so unbecoming and disruptive to fellow passengers and our personnel,” Air Peace said in a statement. “Air Peace maintains a zero-tolerance stance on violence or any form of aggression against our staff and passengers.” The airline was forced to activate an operational contingency plan to board affected passengers through an alternate terminal, ensuring the continuity of their travel plans. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with Oshiomhole arguing with airline staff and allegedly jumping onto a baggage conveyor belt in an attempt to block the departure hall. “You delay a flight for 4 hours, you are asking people to pay for your own incompetence, you don’t deserve to exist,” Oshiomhole was heard shouting. “I am not here for privilege, give me my ticket or give me my cash.” Passengers and airline staff criticized Oshiomhole’s actions as a blatant misuse of power and a display of entitlement. “He probably forgot that the airport has CCTV,” an airline official said. “He admits he came late but says he had checked in online.” As of now, Oshiomhole has not issued a public statement addressing the allegations. Air Peace has announced plans to submit formal reports on the incident to relevant authorities, including the Nigerian Senate and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, for investigation and possible disciplinary action.

OYO STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF FLIGHT OPERATIONS AT IBADAN AIRPORT

The Oyo State Government has announced that local flight operations will resume at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, by the end of 2025, with full international operations scheduled to begin in 2026. The airport is currently undergoing a major upgrade to meet international aviation standards. According to the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the airport’s transformation includes the extension of the runway from 2,400 to 3,000 meters and its widening from 45 to 60 meters to accommodate wide-body aircraft suitable for international flights. The airfield lighting has also been upgraded to CAT C standards, while fire and safety systems have been enhanced to meet global benchmarks. “These upgrades reflect the government’s vision of transforming Ibadan Airport into a modern, internationally competitive facility,” Oyelade said. “By enhancing our infrastructure to accommodate larger aircraft, we are improving domestic connectivity and opening doors to global travel.” The commissioner confirmed that the runway, apron, taxiway, and blast pads are already 55% complete and are expected to be ready before the year ends, pending regulatory approvals for domestic operations. “The International Terminal is currently at 15% completion and is projected to be ready by June 2026,” Oyelade added. The upgrade project, officially flagged off on September 18, 2024, led to a temporary shutdown of the airport in March 2025 to allow for accelerated construction work. Governor Seyi Makinde has reiterated his commitment that the next Hajj flight from Oyo State to Saudi Arabia will depart directly from the Ibadan airport. The resumption of flight operations at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport is expected to boost the state’s economy and improve connectivity for residents and visitors alike. With the government’s commitment to completing the upgrade project, the airport is set to become a major hub for air travel in the region.
