Everton Fight Back Twice to Hold Manchester United to 2–2 Draw

Manchester United were denied a dramatic Premier League victory at Everton on Sunday after Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck deep into stoppage time to secure a 2–2 draw at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

United twice took the lead, but Everton fought back on both occasions before producing a stunning late equaliser.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring just after half-time, curling United ahead in the 46th minute. Everton responded in the 83rd minute when Tyrique George fired home to make it 1–1.

United appeared to have snatched all three points when substitute Benjamin Šeško headed home in the 88th minute, restoring the visitors’ advantage.

But Everton refused to surrender. In the sixth minute of added time, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, making his Everton debut, produced a spectacular long-range finish to send the home supporters into celebration and rescue a point for David Moyes’ side.

The result will feel particularly frustrating for Manchester United, who appeared to have secured their second league win of the campaign before Everton’s dramatic late response.

Everton’s resilience earned them a valuable point and maintained their unbeaten start to the season, while United were left to rue another failure to protect a late lead.
