Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are creating opportunities for indigenous Nigerian companies to expand beyond the country and compete as global brands.

Shettima made the assertion on Monday in Abuja while receiving the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, and other senior executives of the indigenous fintech company on a courtesy visit.

The Vice President identified Flutterwave, Moniepoint and Andela among Nigerian companies leveraging the changing economic environment to scale their operations and expand their businesses internationally.

He assured Flutterwave and other indigenous companies of the Federal Government’s continued support, stressing the need for Nigeria to deliberately promote and strengthen its home-grown businesses.

“We have to support and promote our own. We have to make our companies stronger,” Shettima said.

He commended Flutterwave for building what he described as one of Africa’s most compelling technology success stories from Nigeria.

According to him, one of the most significant aspects of the company’s growth is its ability to develop an indigenous solution to an African problem, particularly in the area of digital payments for products and services.

The Vice President attributed the company’s progress to committed leadership and expertise, while assuring the Flutterwave team that the Federal Government would continue to provide support within and outside Nigeria.

Flutterwave, an indigenous financial technology company, provides payment infrastructure for global merchants and payment service providers.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Shettima and the Federal Government for the confidence reposed in the company, describing the government’s engagement with Flutterwave as a significant milestone and a strategic indication of Nigeria’s support for its indigenous businesses.

Agboola said the company was ready to work with the administration to advance its economic agenda and contribute to Nigeria’s growth.

“It is our goal to partner with you and your team to reason how we can do more to advance the administration’s amazing economic agenda that we have seen working right now in the country. We want to be a part of that positive story,” he said.

He reaffirmed the company’s Nigerian identity, saying its commitment to the country remained central to its operations and ambitions.

“We are very much a Nigerian company. I’m very much Nigerian. Nigeria is our home,” Agboola said.

He added that the company’s objective was to contribute its expertise and resources towards moving the Nigerian economy forward.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group, Stanley Uzochukwu, and other senior management personnel.

The engagement underscores the administration’s emphasis on strengthening indigenous businesses, particularly technology-driven enterprises, as part of efforts to position Nigerian companies for greater participation in the global economy.
