14 Feared Dead as Boat Capsizes in Yauri, Gov. Idris Consoles Families

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic boat accident in the Yauri Local Government Area that claimed the lives of 14 people.

 

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Yauri Local Government, and the Yauri Emirate following the incident. He delivered the message shortly after attending the funeral prayers of the deceased.

 

Represented by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Shu’aibu, Governor Idris, urged residents to accept the tragedy as an act of God and remain steadfast in faith during the difficult time.

 

He prayed for the forgiveness of the victims’ shortcomings and asked Allah to grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.

 

Providing details of the incident, the council chairman explained that the accident occurred at Gumbi village in Gumbi Ward of Yauri LGA. According to him, the victims had earlier accompanied a bride to her husband’s residence in Gwarzo village, Ngaski Local Government Area, and were returning home when the boat capsized.

 

He disclosed that over 100 passengers were on board at the time of the mishap. Fourteen people: 13 women and one child lost their lives in the accident.

 

All the deceased have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

 

The Kebbi State Government reiterated its sympathy with the affected families and the entire Yauri community over the unfortunate incident.
