A former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, has dismissed concerns over the strength of opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress remains dominant.

Masari, who chairs the APC National Convention Planning Committee, said members of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress have no new ideas to offer Nigerians.

Speaking on Friday on the sidelines of the APC convention event at Eagle Square in Abuja, he argued that most opposition leaders have previously held public office.

“Who was not in government?” he queried. “Some for 20 years, some for 15 years, eight years. You have not shown me anybody new in this business.”

The ADC coalition includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

While opposition leaders have criticised the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of worsening economic hardship, Masari maintained that the APC remains the most popular party in the country.

“In terms of popularity, APC is number one, whatever the permutations,” he said.

He added that the ruling party is fully prepared for the 2027 elections and not intimidated by any opposition alliance.

“As a party, we are not afraid. We are very ready,” Masari stated.

The former governor also defended the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, noting that they have improved revenue distribution across federal, state and local governments.

He further stressed the need for accountability at all levels of governance, arguing that not all national challenges should be attributed to the federal government alone.

The remarks come amid increasing political activity and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
