Truck Crashes Into Residence in Ekiti, Kills University Student
A tragic accident in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, has claimed the life of Promise Farotimi, a 21-year-old 300-Level Building Technology student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
The incident occurred over the weekend in the Oke-Ila area when a heavy-duty truck rammed into the family’s residential building, leaving Farotimi dead and his family homeless.
Speaking on Sunday, the distraught father, Rufus Farotimi, described the incident as a “devastating double tragedy,” mourning both the loss of his son and the destruction of his home.
He revealed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, while residents apprehended the driver’s assistant.
Documents recovered from the vehicle, including waybills, indicated that the truck, carrying natural gypsum, was linked to a company identifying the driver as Shuaibu Yusuf.
The Ekiti State Police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Traffic Section for thorough investigation.
Farotimi appealed to authorities and the company to ensure the driver is apprehended and that the family receives urgent support.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting road safety concerns in the state and the need for stricter monitoring of heavy-duty vehicles in residential areas.
