The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has called on Nigerians to strengthen national unity, embrace peaceful coexistence, and commit to collective sacrifice as the country observes Eid-el-Kabir in 2026.

In his Eid message, Shettima said the festival offers an important opportunity for reflection on values such as faith, obedience, compassion, and sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

He noted that these principles remain essential for Nigeria’s progress, especially at a time when the nation is undergoing reforms aimed at long-term stability and development.

Shettima urged citizens to prioritise what unites them over what divides them, stressing that national growth cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of division, mistrust, or conflict.

According to him, “What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity.”

The Vice President also appealed for patience and understanding as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu implements economic and governance reforms, describing them as necessary steps toward rebuilding a stronger and more resilient country.

He acknowledged that the reforms may come with short-term difficulties but insisted they are designed to secure a more stable and prosperous future for Nigerians.

Shettima further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, stabilising the economy, creating jobs, and expanding opportunities across all regions of the country.

He also paid tribute to members of the armed forces and security agencies, commending their efforts in restoring peace and safety in affected areas.

“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come,” he said, expressing optimism that Nigeria is steadily progressing toward recovery, peace, and sustainable development.
