The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken decisive action against former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, expelling him from the party due to his involvement in anti-party activities. This move follows a thorough investigation into Aregbesola’s actions, which were deemed detrimental to the party’s unity and integrity.

Aregbesola, who previously served as the Governor of Osun State, had been leading a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives (TOP), now rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus. This group was accused of contributing to the party’s defeat in the 2022 governorship election in Osun State.

In a recent meeting, the Omoluabi Caucus, led by Aregbesola, announced its decision to leave the APC, citing the party’s declining popularity in the state. However, the APC has now formally expelled Aregbesola, stating that his actions violated Article 21 of the APC Constitution.

The APC’s decision was conveyed to Aregbesola in a formal letter, which stated that he is no longer a member of the party and is not authorized to act on its behalf. Despite his expulsion, the APC acknowledged Aregbesola’s past contributions to the party and urged him to respect the decision.
