BREAKING: FORMER US PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER DIES AT 100

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, has died at the age of 100. Carter passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday, according to the Carter Center. He was the longest-living American president in US history with President George H.W. Bush as the second longest surviving having died at 94

Carter’s son, Chip Carter, described his father as “a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.” Chip Carter added, “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

Carter served as president from 1977 to 1981, defeating incumbent President Gerald Ford in the 1976 election. However, he lost his re-election bid to Ronald Reagan in 1980. Despite his struggles in office, Carter is widely regarded as one of the most successful former presidents in US history, thanks to his tireless work on humanitarian causes.

President Carter brokered a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, known as the Camp David Accord, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to promote peace and human rights. He also established the Carter Centre, which has monitored elections and promoted democracy around the world.

Carter’s post-presidency was marked by criticism of his successors, including George W. Bush, whom he called “the worst in history.” He also questioned the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency, saying,”he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.”

Despite these controversies, Carter remained a widely respected figure, known for his commitment to peace, human rights, and social justice. As Chip Carter said, “My father was a hero… and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
