BREAKING: KEBBI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SPEAKER, MUHAMMAD USMAN ZURU, DIES IN EGYPT
The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in an Egyptian hospital where he was undergoing medical treatment. He passed away on Monday night, April 6, 2026.

The late speaker, who represented the Zuru constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), had been managing his health for some time before traveling to Egypt for treatment of an undisclosed illness. He was elected Speaker at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023.
The Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki, confirmed the death to Radio Nigeria. An aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the news as deeply shocking. “The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” he said. He added, “We are still gathering full details surrounding his passing. The government will make an official statement and announce burial arrangements in consultation with the family.”
An official of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Murtala Diri, issued a statement noting that the death is “a significant loss to his constituents, the legislative body, and the state in general.”
The late speaker, popularly known as Lifiddan Zuru, was regarded as a prominent political figure within the Zuru Emirate. His passing has triggered an outpouring of condolences from fellow lawmakers, political associates, and residents across the state.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be made by the Kebbi State Government and the family following the repatriation of his remains from Egypt.
