FCT Police Rescue Two Abandoned Babies in Abuja, Launch Search for Their Families

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued two abandoned babies found in separate incidents in Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of Abuja. The Command said the two infants, a baby boy and a baby girl were discovered by residents who heard them crying at different locations.

The first case occurred on Wednesday, September 2, in Kurudu in Bwari area council, where a resident identified as Innocent reportedly heard a baby crying near Obodo Street.

On approaching the area, he discovered a baby boy wrapped in cloth and abandoned inside a carton.

Police officers from the Kurudu Division, alongside personnel from the Juveniles and Women Care Department, rescued the infant and took him to a hospital for medical assessment.

The baby was said to be in stable condition before being handed over to the Social Welfare Department for appropriate care.

Hours later, another abandoned infant was discovered in Gwagwalada after a resident, Ibrahim, heard a baby crying outside his gate.

He reportedly went outside to investigate and found an abandoned baby girl.

The child was subsequently taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical attention, where she remains under care.

The Police Command has appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in identifying the mothers or relatives of the two babies to come forward.
