The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is set to begin a community-based registration of the National Identity Number (NIN) across the 25 local government areas of Delta State starting Monday, February 16, 2026.

The initiative, scheduled to run until March 30, 2026, is part of a federal government directive aimed at expanding access to the national identity database and ensuring that all eligible persons are captured. Registration centres will operate daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe made this known in a statement issued on Thursday. He called on residents who are yet to enrol to make use of the exercise, stressing that participation is open to everyone, including newborns and children.

According to him, the NIN has become essential for a wide range of activities, from banking transactions and SIM registration to accessing government intervention programmes and processing international travel documents. He noted that obtaining the identification number is now a critical requirement for many official and financial dealings.

To make the process more convenient, registration points will be stationed at designated town halls in every ward across the state, allowing residents to enrol within their immediate communities.

The state government reiterated that the exercise is free and urged residents to visit their respective ward centres within the registration window to secure their National Identity Number.
