NiMet, NCAT Seal Strategic Partnership to Boost Aviation, Meteorological Training
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and service delivery in Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

The collaboration was cemented on Tuesday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to deepen collaboration in professional training, capacity development, and the enhancement of service quality across the aviation and meteorological value chain.
Under the terms of the MoU, NiMet and NCAT will collaborate in the use of training facilities and provide advisory support for aviation training programmes. The partnership also covers the delivery of specialised long- and short-term courses tailored for NiMet personnel.
In addition, the agreement provides for staff exchange programmes and joint training initiatives designed to strengthen technical expertise and operational efficiency.
A key component of the framework is the utilisation of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-compliant aviation training programmes.
The partnership further targets critical professional areas, including aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, and airport operations.
Both institutions will also jointly organise programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology to build a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals in the sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to continuous human capital development. He emphasised that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnerships remains vital to advancing operational excellence and supporting safe and efficient air navigation in Nigeria.
The MoU is expected to further consolidate cooperation between the two institutions and strengthen Nigeria’s aviation safety and meteorological service framework.
