RIVERS HIGH COURT ADJOURNS FUBARA’S IMPEACHMENT SUIT INDEFINITELY
Justice Florence Fiberesima of the Oyigbo High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned indefinitely the suit filed by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu. The suit challenges the impeachment processes initiated against them by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, 26 other members, and the Clerk of the House.

Ruling on the application, Justice Fiberesima adjourned the matter sine die, meaning without a fixed date. This decision was based on proof presented before the court that two separate appeals have been entered at a higher court.
Justice Fiberesima stated that the adjournment will “enable the Appeal Court to determine the suit before it.”
This development follows an earlier interim injunction from the same court. That order restrained Speaker Martin Amaewhule and 32 others, including the Clerk of the House and the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from proceeding with impeachment actions.
The injunction specifically barred the Speaker and others from forwarding any articles of impeachment or related documents to the Chief Judge for the purpose of setting up an investigative panel. It also restrained Chief Judge Amadi from receiving, considering, or acting on any such request or resolution from the first to 27th defendants for a period of seven days. This was aimed at preventing the constitution of a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct against the governor and his deputy. The indefinite adjournment now places the matter in the hands of the appellate court.
