ZAMBIA’S HIGH COMMISSIONER TO SOUTH AFRICA SACKED OVER MISCONDUCT

Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has fired the country’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Mazuba Monze, over a misconduct scandal. According to reports, Ms. Monze asked a male staff member to shave her private parts, a request the staff member refused, citing it was not part of his duties.

The staff member’s refusal was reportedly met with disciplinary action, as Ms. Monze termed it “disobedience and insubordination” and fired him. However, the staff member appealed the decision, bringing the matter to the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Upon verifying the allegations, President Hichilema promptly fired Ms. Monze. The incident has raised questions about the conduct of Zambia’s diplomatic representatives abroad and has left a stain on the country’s diplomatic reputation.

However, some reports suggest that the allegations against Ms. Monze may have been exaggerated or fabricated by her detractors. A concerned Zambian living in South Africa claims that a campaign was launched against Ms. Monze, involving false reports and fabrications, which ultimately led to her dismissal.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen what further actions will be taken and what consequences Ms. Monze will face.
