2027 Under Threat? ADC Alleges Early Moves to Predetermine Election Outcome
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over what it describes as early moves to predetermine the outcome of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, alleging a coordinated effort to weaken opposition forces ahead of the polls.

Speaking at a world press conference on Thursday in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of deliberately undermining democratic institutions to secure an uncontested path to re-election.
Mark claimed that recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly its decision to withdraw recognition of the ADC leadership, form part of a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties ahead of 2027.
“The agenda is clear—to create a situation where, in 2027, President Tinubu emerges as the only option left for Nigerians,” Mark said.
He argued that Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges have eroded public confidence in the current administration, making electoral manipulation the only pathway to political survival for the ruling party.
According to him, the controversy surrounding the leadership of the ADC is not an isolated legal matter but part of a calculated attempt to destabilise what he described as the “last viable opposition platform” in the country.
The ADC chairman further alleged that INEC’s interpretation of a Court of Appeal ruling on maintaining the “status quo ante bellum” was deliberately skewed to create confusion within the party and hinder its preparations for upcoming political activities.
He warned that such actions could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s democracy, particularly if they affect the credibility of future elections.
“The electoral umpire has taken sides. What we are witnessing is not just interference, but a systematic effort to dismantle opposition ahead of 2027,” he stated.
Mark also questioned the rationale behind what he described as the administration’s intolerance for political competition, despite its dominance across key institutions of government.
“With overwhelming control of the National Assembly and majority of state governments, what is the fear of a free and fair contest?” he asked.
The ADC leadership maintained that it would proceed with its scheduled congresses and convention, insisting that no administrative action by INEC could override its internal processes.
It also called on Nigerians and the international community to remain vigilant, warning that the integrity of the 2027 elections may already be under threat.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has yet to formally respond to the latest allegations.
