NiMet Rolls Out Ambitious 2026–2030 Plan to Transform Climate Services, Set New Performance Standards
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has unveiled an ambitious Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 designed to transform its operations, strengthen climate services, and raise performance standards across Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the agency’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Charles Anosike, described the initiative as a bold step toward repositioning NiMet as a leading provider of weather and climate intelligence.

He said the plan serves as a comprehensive performance management roadmap that aligns NiMet’s services with national development priorities, adding that the agency is set to become the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully institutionalise the Balanced Scorecard framework.
According to Anosike, the strategy is anchored on five key pillars: employee growth and development, strategic partnerships, technology and innovation, quality service delivery, and revenue diversification.
He noted that the agency’s over 140-year legacy in safeguarding lives and property provides a strong foundation for the new direction.
The rollout is in line with the Federal Government’s results-based governance framework coordinated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to drive accountability and measurable outcomes across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Also speaking, the Managing Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Balanced Scorecard West Africa, Kayode Sufianu, commended NiMet’s leadership for adopting the globally recognised Balanced Scorecard system, noting that it enables organisations to translate strategy into measurable results across stakeholders, financial performance, internal processes, and organisational capacity.
As part of the initiative, NiMet also unveiled its refreshed core values captured in the acronym I-PACE, Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence to guide the effective implementation of the strategic plan.
