Police in Kebbi Arraign 30-year-old Man for Allegedly Killing Father With Pestle

The Kebbi State Police Command has arraigned a 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Karaye, before a magistrate court for allegedly killing his biological father, Bahago Karaye, aged 50 years. The arraignment took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, following an incident that occurred on a farm in Rakka Village, Birnin Yauri, Yauri Local Government Area of the state .

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Kebbi Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. Usman disclosed that the incident happened on March 30, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., while the suspect and his father were working together on the farm. A disagreement arose between them, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation .

According to the police spokesman, during the confrontation, the deceased allegedly threw a stick at his son. In reaction, the suspect became enraged, picked up a pestle, and struck his father on the head. The victim sustained serious injuries from the blow and was rushed to the Birnin Yauri Primary Health Care Centre, where he received treatment and was later discharged .

Usman further explained that on April 1, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., the father, Bahago Karaye, died at his residence as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident. The police spokesman confirmed that the suspect has been charged to court accordingly for prosecution. The command has not yet disclosed the next court date or whether the suspect has entered a plea .
