At least 16 people have been killed following one of the deadliest waves of Russian strikes on Ukraine this year, according to Ukrainian officials, as the war intensifies amid stalled diplomatic efforts.

Authorities said the attacks, carried out by Russian missile and drone barrages, struck multiple regions across Ukraine, including civilian infrastructure and residential areas. Emergency services reported dozens of injuries, with rescue operations ongoing in several affected cities.

Ukrainian officials condemned the strikes as deliberate targeting of civilians, accusing Russia of escalating its offensive despite renewed international calls for de-escalation. Images released by emergency responders showed destroyed buildings, burning homes, and rescue workers searching through rubble for survivors.

In Kyiv, government representatives described the assault as one of the most severe coordinated attacks in recent months. Regional authorities confirmed fatalities in different parts of the country, suggesting a widespread and synchronized military operation.

Russia has not immediately issued a detailed response to the latest strikes but has previously maintained that its attacks are aimed at military and strategic targets. However, repeated incidents involving civilian casualties have drawn criticism from the international community.

Global leaders and organizations have renewed calls for restraint, with some urging fresh diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. The latest escalation comes at a time when prospects for peace talks remain uncertain, and tensions between Moscow and Western allies continue to rise.

The war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and widespread destruction, with millions displaced.
