Fashion Tycoon James Holder Convicted of Rape After Night Out Incident
James Holder, co-founder of British fashion brand Superdry, has been found guilty of rape by a UK court following a trial over an incident that occurred after a night out in Cheltenham.
A jury at Gloucester Crown Court convicted the 54-year-old businessman of one count of rape, while acquitting him of a separate charge of assault by penetration.
According to prosecutors, the incident took place in May 2022 after Holder and a companion entered a taxi with the victim and followed her to her home. The court heard that the woman, who was intoxicated, repeatedly asked him to stop during the assault and became distressed.
Holder admitted that sexual activity occurred but maintained throughout the trial that it was consensual. However, jurors rejected his account after hearing evidence from the victim and witnesses.
Following the verdict, Holder was remanded in custody after his bail application was denied. He is expected to be sentenced at a later date.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to Holder’s prominence in the fashion industry. He co-founded Superdry in 2003 and later stepped down from the company in 2016.
Legal experts say the conviction underscores the seriousness with which UK courts are handling sexual assault cases, particularly those involving high-profile individuals.
