INEC Fixes June 20 for Rivers South-East Senatorial Bye-Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Saturday, June 20, 2026, for the conduct of the bye-election to fill the vacant seat in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District of Rivers State.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem.
According to the Commission, the exercise will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. across the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
INEC disclosed that voting would be conducted in 88 Registration Areas (RAs/Wards) and 1,629 polling units spread across Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana, and Gokana Local Government Areas.

The electoral body assured residents and political stakeholders of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, and credible election, urging eligible voters to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
The Rivers South-East Senatorial seat became vacant following recent political developments in the district, prompting the need for a bye-election in line with constitutional provisions.
