APC Picks Kingsley Chinda, Wike’s Ally as Rivers Governorship Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Hon. Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State following the conclusion of the party’s primary election.
Chinda emerged victorious after results from wards across the 23 local government areas of the state were collated at the APC secretariat on Thursday evening.
Announcing the outcome, Chairman of the APC Governorship Screening Committee for Rivers State, Bitrus Kwamoti, said Chinda secured a total of 268,497 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
Kwamoti described the primary election as peaceful, transparent, and successful, commending party members and officials for their orderly conduct throughout the exercise.
The emergence of Chinda, widely regarded as a political ally of former Rivers State governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to further shape the political landscape in Rivers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party supporters gathered at the APC secretariat shortly after the announcement to celebrate the outcome of the primary.
Further details on the election and reactions from other aspirants were still being awaited as of press time.
