Tinubu Celebrates Rangers’ Record-Breaking League Victory
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC on clinching their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, extending their record as one of the most successful clubs in the country.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Enugu-based club for finishing the season at the top of the league table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of close contenders Rivers United.
Tinubu commended the club’s management, players, and loyal supporters for their dedication and consistency throughout the campaign, noting that the triumph reflects the club’s enduring legacy in Nigerian football.

The President also reflected on Rangers’ golden era in the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting their remarkable achievements, including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.
He further praised Peter Mbah, attributing the team’s recent success to the Enugu State government’s sustained investment in youth development and sports infrastructure.
“As one of the oldest football clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have nurtured some of the nation’s finest talents who have gone on to represent the country with distinction on the global stage. Their achievement makes the nation proud,” the President said.
Tinubu also acknowledged the strong performance of Rivers United during the season, applauding their resilience and sportsmanship.
He wished both clubs success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
