The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, describing the outcome as a triumph of the people’s will over what it called the “rule of might.”

The party also commended the people of Osun State for turning out to vote despite the political tension that preceded the election, saying their determination to cast and protect their votes demonstrated the strength of Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, APM said the election had provided an opportunity for voters to freely express their preference and have their mandate respected.

The party said it had consistently advocated for genuine democracy in Nigeria, particularly a system where every vote is counted and reflected in the final result.

According to the APM, the outcome of the Osun election showed the importance of respecting the wishes of voters and ensuring that electoral mandates are determined by citizens rather than political influence.

The party said the level of political violence recorded around the election had tested Nigerians’ commitment to democratic governance.

It nevertheless described the successful conclusion of the election as evidence that citizens possess the capacity to resist forces seeking to influence or disrupt the democratic process.

APM maintained that national interest should take precedence over partisan political considerations, urging Nigerians and political stakeholders to continue working towards a stronger democratic system.

The party said the Osun experience should reinforce the need for elections in which voters can freely choose their leaders and have confidence that their votes will count.
