Tinubu Receives NIMASA DG, Reaffirms Commitment to Maritime Sector Development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing Nigeria’s maritime industry as a key driver of economic growth and increased contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.

The President stated this when he received the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, in audience at the State House, Abuja.

During the meeting, Mobereola briefed the President on developments within NIMASA over the past two years, highlighting the progress recorded by the agency as well as some of the challenges confronting Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Tinubu underscored the strategic importance of the Marine and Blue Economy to the country’s economic transformation, noting its potential to generate wealth, create jobs and strengthen Nigeria’s contribution to global maritime activities.

The President commended NIMASA for the progress made under its current leadership and charged Mobereola and his management team to sustain the momentum.

He urged the agency to remain focused on its mandate and intensify efforts towards building a stronger, more efficient and prosperous maritime sector capable of contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic development.

The meeting further underscored the Federal Government’s determination to harness Nigeria’s vast maritime resources and unlock the full potential of the Marine and Blue Economy.

Tinubu’s administration has identified the maritime sector as an important component of its broader economic reform agenda, with the sector expected to play a greater role in revenue generation, employment creation, trade facilitation and national development.

The President therefore encouraged NIMASA to continue working towards improved maritime administration and safety while supporting initiatives that would enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
