The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has announced the death of its former Chairman, Comrade Patrick Osadebamwen.

The Council described the death of the veteran journalist and former union leader as a painful loss to the journalism community, saying it received the news with deep sadness.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the Council said the death was confirmed by friends of the deceased.

Osadebamwen had worked with several media organisations during his journalism career, including The Union, Core TV and The Nigerian Tribune, before joining Kaftan TV.

Beyond his professional career, he played an active role in the NUJ and served as Chairman of the FCT Council.

The Council said his contributions to the union and the journalism profession would be remembered by colleagues and associates who worked with him.

Osadebamwen is survived by three children.

The NUJ FCT Council commiserated with his family, colleagues, friends and associates, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.

The Council also urged members of the union to remember the bereaved family in their prayers and pray for the repose of Osadebamwen’s soul.

It said further details concerning his burial arrangements would be communicated as plans are concluded.
