Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Luanda, Angola.

Shettima participated in the high-level summit, which focused on strengthening Africa’s capacity to address conflicts and emerging security challenges across the continent.

At the meeting, Nigeria called for stronger African-led mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution, stressing the need for the continent to take greater ownership of efforts to address its security challenges.

The Nigerian delegation also urged urgent continental action against recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Africans and other nationals in South Africa.

Nigeria further expressed support for the Luanda Action Plan and advocated sustainable financing for Africa’s peace and security architecture.

The country also called for stronger collective responsibility among AU member states and greater African ownership of solutions to conflicts affecting the continent.

Following the conclusion of his official engagements in Angola, the Vice President returned to Abuja.

Shettima’s participation underscored Nigeria’s continued advocacy for stronger regional cooperation and African-led solutions to peace and security challenges across the continent.
