Sokoto Police Inspector Dies After Weekly Walkathon Exercise
The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the death of Inspector Adamu Isah, an officer attached to the Department of Operations, who collapsed shortly after participating in the Command’s weekly Walkathon exercise.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, 3rd September, 2026, at the Command Headquarters, where the fitness routine took place. Inspector Isah was immediately rushed to the hospital after collapsing but was later confirmed dead by attending doctors.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, psc, mnips, expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sudden passing of the officer. CP Shaffa conveyed the deep shock and sadness felt by the entire Command and extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
“The Sokoto State Police Command is deeply saddened by the sudden and painful loss of our colleague, Inspector Adamu Isah. He was a dedicated and gallant officer who served his fatherland with unwavering commitment and professionalism,” CP Shaffa stated.
“Beyond his official duties, Inspector Isah was an active sportsman he was a valued member of the Command’s volleyball team and also a boxer. His energy, discipline, and team spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

The Commissioner further described the Walkathon as a long-standing Police tradition held every Wednesday to promote physical fitness and operational readiness among personnel. He noted that Inspector Isah had returned from the exercise shortly before his collapse.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family during this difficult time. We pray that the Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” CP Shaffa added.
The Commissioner also described Inspector Isah as a disciplined officer who contributed significantly to the operations of the Command and assured the bereaved family that the Command stands with them and will provide all necessary support.
CP Shaffa called on all officers and men of the Command to remain steadfast and take solace in the fact that their fallen colleague lived a life of service to the nation. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Inspector Adamu Isah’s soul.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, who signed the press release, confirmed the details of the incident.
DSP Rufa’i reiterated the Command’s commitment to supporting the deceased officer’s family during their time of mourning. DSP Rufa’i also emphasised that the Command views Inspector Isah’s passing as a great loss to the entire police family.
The Command has not disclosed further details regarding the medical cause of death, but has urged all personnel to prioritise their health while maintaining their physical fitness routines.
