Amaechi Tells ADC Members To Bury Primaries Disputes, Focus on Winning Elections
Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, has issued a stark warning to party members still nursing grievances over the presidential primaries, declaring that continued infighting would spell doom for the party’s electoral chances.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Amaechi urged members to put the contentious primary dispute behind them and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections,” Amaechi said.
The former Rivers State governor stressed that the task ahead required determination, unity and a collective willingness to overcome obstacles, adding that incumbent governments often make the mistake of believing they are invincible and cannot be removed.
Amaechi recounted his experiences during previous political campaigns under the Peoples Democratic Party era, including incidents in which security officials allegedly prevented him from travelling.
He recalled being stopped at Akure Airport and advised by a military officer to leave the area because his safety could not be guaranteed.
He also described another incident at the same airport when he was prevented from flying, saying that the intervention of political leaders helped resolve the situation.
According to Amaechi, those experiences underscored that political campaigns can involve difficulties requiring courage, persistence and collective action.
He urged members of the campaign council to learn from previous political struggles and remain focused on their responsibilities, charging them to work collectively toward achieving the party’s objectives in the forthcoming elections.
