ADC Crisis Deepens as Founder Accuses Government of Political Interference
Founder and immediate past National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has expressed concern over what he described as possible government interference in the party’s internal affairs, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
Nwosu made the remarks while reacting to recent developments within the party, particularly involving Nafiu Bala. He noted that Bala had participated in previous meetings between ADC stakeholders and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), raising questions about his current stance and role in the ongoing crisis.
“I am concerned now that this government is using him to attack our country’s democracy,” Nwosu said, suggesting that recent actions linked to Bala may not be entirely independent of external political influence.
His comments come amid a deepening leadership dispute within the ADC, which has drawn national attention following conflicting claims over the party’s structure and legitimacy.
While Nwosu did not provide specific evidence to substantiate the allegation, he called for vigilance and respect for democratic principles, warning that political interference in party administration could set a dangerous precedent.
The ADC has been embroiled in internal tensions in recent weeks, with rival factions laying claim to leadership positions, prompting interventions from INEC and the courts.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the federal government or the individuals mentioned regarding Nwosu’s claims.
