A Nigerian advocate, Afegbua, has pledged to champion the interests of visually impaired individuals with a focus on expanding opportunities in the technology sector.

Afegbua made this commitment while addressing stakeholders on the need to create a more inclusive digital environment for persons living with visual impairments. He stressed that technology has the potential to significantly improve accessibility, independence, and economic participation for affected individuals if properly harnessed.

According to him, there is an urgent need to bridge the gap between disability and digital innovation by ensuring that visually impaired persons are equipped with relevant tech skills and tools. He noted that inclusive policies, assistive technologies, and targeted training programmes would play a key role in achieving this goal.

Afegbua also called on government agencies, private sector players, and educational institutions to invest in accessible technologies and create enabling environments that allow visually impaired persons to thrive in the digital economy.

He emphasized that promoting digital inclusion is not just a social responsibility but also a pathway to unlocking untapped talent and boosting national development.

The pledge comes amid growing conversations around accessibility, digital inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving tech ecosystem.
