Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced an emergency plenary session of the Nigerian Senate scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo.

According to the statement, all senators have been directed to reconvene for the emergency sitting, which will commence at 12:00 p.m.

“The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed the reconvening of plenary for an emergency sitting on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026,” the statement read in part.

The emergency plenary comes amid controversy surrounding a proposed amendment to the Electoral Act seeking to mandate the real-time electronic transmission of election results.

The Senate had rejected the proposal last week, a decision that sparked widespread criticism from the public and civil society groups.

Following the rejection, allegations emerged that the Senate President passed a resolution contrary to the position supported by the majority of senators, further intensifying the controversy.

The planned emergency session is expected to address the growing dispute over the Electoral Act amendment and related legislative concerns.
