Anyanwu Appeals Court Ruling Upholding Suspension, Deepening PDP Crisis

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has filed an appeal challenging the judgment of a Federal Capital Territory High Court that upheld his suspension and recommended his expulsion from the party.

The move follows an earlier ruling by Justice Y. Halilu, which dismissed Anyanwu’s suit on grounds of lack of jurisdiction, describing the dispute as an internal party matter beyond the court’s purview.

In his notice of appeal, Anyanwu is seeking to overturn the decision and affirm his position as National Secretary, arguing that the court indeed has the authority to adjudicate on the matter.

The development adds a fresh layer to the ongoing crisis within the PDP, with divisions persisting among party stakeholders. The situation is particularly pronounced among loyalists of Nyesom Wike, as concerns continue to mount over the legitimacy of decisions taken by the party leadership during Anyanwu’s suspension.

Key issues under contention include appointments made in his absence and the conduct of the party’s recent national convention, further highlighting deepening fractures within the opposition party.
