Bloodshed in Nasarawa: Residents Killed in Aso-Pada, Mararaba Amid Political Gathering
Residents of Aso-Pada community in Nasarawa State have been thrown into mourning following a deadly attack by suspected bandits that left several people dead and others injured.
The attack, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day, saw armed assailants storm the community, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers operated for hours without immediate resistance, forcing many villagers to flee their homes for safety.
Local sources say the victims included farmers and traders, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Properties were also reportedly destroyed during the attack, further worsening the plight of affected families.
Security operatives were later deployed to the area, but not before the attackers had fled. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties as of press time, though efforts are said to be ongoing to restore calm and track down the perpetrators.
The incident comes at a time when governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are convening for a party congress, a development that has drawn attention to Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Nasarawa State, like many parts of the North-Central region, has in recent years witnessed repeated attacks linked to banditry and communal violence, raising concerns over the safety of rural communities.
Residents have called on both the state and federal governments to intensify security measures and ensure the protection of lives and property, stressing that such attacks have become too frequent.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid in apprehending those responsible.
