Brig Gen Braimah Was so Identical with His Twin, Such that their Secondary Classmates had Hard Times Identifying the Duo – Dickson
By Antony Dickson
“When we came in as JSS 1 students, they were so identical, Alasa and Oseni Braimah Oseni Omoh that we hardly tell one from the other. It was only made easy after classes when we are putting on our house wears. Oseni was in Octopus house (red checkered shirt) and Alasa was in Dragon house (green checkered shirt).
Command Secondary School, Kaduna Command Secondary School Kakuri – Kaduna (CSSKD) was our first training ground to becoming well rounded disciplined individuals. As classmates we were so close that after a couple of years I could actually tell them apart without depending on their house wears. It was a thing of joy to be able to do so.
In our final year we all became prefects, Oseni was the Octopus house prefect, Alasa my house prefect, Dragon house and I was the Timekeeper prefect.
I can vividly recall the day we were announced prefects on the assembly ground. It was on a cold Monday morning and the highlight of the ceremony was when the twin brothers were announced house prefects of their respective houses. The whole assembly ground went into a huge and joyous frenzy. You could see that they were so loved by everyone.
One thing that was so special was that Alasa and Oseni loved the company of each other. The only times they were ever apart was during classes since they were in different classes.
I remember Oseni would always come to the room of Alasa in Dragon house hostel. We would be in the room gisting until late. One thing was sure, Oseni would be the last to leave that room for his room in Octopus house hostel.
Oseni had a gentle and friendly demeanour, a very good listener. He hardly spoke much but he listens to every of your conversations with keen interest, maintaining good eye contact.
It wasn’t surprising that Oseni joined the military. I once visited him while he was in the Nigerian Defence Academy. Not much changed, he was still the fine gentleman that he had always been. He rose up the ranks as an officer to becoming a Brigadier General. We always celebrated every of his promotions.
As a military officer and a Brigadier General at that, he was the perfect definition of an officer and a gentleman. Generous to a fault, always had a listening ear, called to service and he did served his country and its citizens.
It was a rude shock to hear this morning that he has fallen. Alas, Oseni paid the supreme price, died in active service. The painful question is ‘will his sacrifice actually never be in vain?’
While he was here with us, whenever we spoke he would remind me that I’m yet to buy him his bottle of wine for marrying his sister. I wish this is all a joke and I’m still able to buy you that bottle of wine.
My heart goes out to Alasa his twin brother, and to his wife and children. May the sacrifice of our heroes never be in vain. You will be profoundly missed Oseni. Rest well gallant officer.
