CIVIL SOCIETY GROUP DEFENDS GOVERNOR MOHAMMED BAGO OVER CONTROVERSIAL DIRECTIVE

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice has come out in defense of Governor Mohammed Bago’s directive to the police to arrest individuals with dreadlocks in Niger State. The group expressed strong disagreement with an article titled “Mohammed Bago’s Misplaced Priority” published in This Day newspaper, saying the article failed to acknowledge the governor’s significant achievements and well-meaning initiatives.

According to the group, Governor Bago’s directive stems from his patriotic duty to address the rising wave of insecurity and criminality in Niger State. The group’s National Coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, stated that the initiative demonstrates the governor’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security.

The civil society group also highlighted Governor Bago’s achievements in various sectors, including agriculture and aviation. They noted that his initiatives to boost food production, enhance farmers’ welfare, and promote agricultural development have yielded positive results. Additionally, the reactivation of the Abandoned Minna International Airport was cited as a notable achievement, showcasing his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.

“We urge the media to adopt a balanced approach, recognizing both challenges and successes,” Okoronkwo said. The group believes that Governor Bago’s dedication to the holistic development of Niger State should be acknowledged and appreciated.
