Governor Douye Diri has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s reforms and support to Bayelsa State, as the President visited to commission four major legacy projects.

Speaking during the ceremony, Diri described Tinubu as “a friend of Bayelsa,” expressing appreciation for his presence at what he termed a historic moment for the state.

The governor said the Federal Government’s policy interventions, particularly in the power sector, have enabled Bayelsa to advance its independent energy ambitions, including the construction of a 60-megawatt gas-fired power plant.

He also highlighted the completion of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, describing it as a long-awaited project that addresses decades of neglect in one of Nigeria’s key oil-producing areas.

According to Diri, the bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity for over 60 communities in Southern Ijaw and parts of Brass Local Government Area, reducing travel time and transportation costs while boosting economic activities.

The governor further noted the importance of the Bayelsa West senatorial road segment, which stretches along the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge corridor, linking several communities and opening up rural areas for development.

He said the project forms part of a broader infrastructure drive aimed at integrating previously isolated communities into the state’s economic framework.

Diri also pointed to the dualised road leading into the emerging New Yenagoa City, stating that it would enhance mobility, attract investments, and support the development of a modern capital.

Beyond the newly commissioned projects, the governor referenced other ongoing initiatives, including a 30,000-seat international stadium and a nine-storey state secretariat, as part of his administration’s “Assured Prosperity” agenda.

He emphasised the strategic importance of major road corridors such as Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie, Nembe–Brass, and Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge, noting that they would open up access to the Atlantic coastline and position the state to benefit from the growing global blue economy.

Diri said Bayelsa aligns with the Federal Government’s blue economy initiative, noting that the sector holds significant economic potential globally.

While acknowledging ongoing collaboration, the governor appealed to the President to extend further federal support to key infrastructure projects, including the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge and Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie roads. He also requested reimbursement for phases already executed by the state government.

In his closing remarks, Diri said the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge symbolises not only physical connectivity but also strengthened cooperation between Bayelsa and the Federal Government.

He expressed optimism that the partnership would continue to deliver progress and prosperity for the people of Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.
