Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved ₦4.6 billion in entitlement benefits for disengaged staff of Colleges of Education in Igueben and Ekiadolor, formerly College of Education, Ekiadolor, now Federal College of Education, Technical. The move brings relief to 714 pensioners – 682 from Ekiadolor and 32 from Igueben – controversially disengaged by former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration without paid entitlements.

Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua stated the payment will be made in four ₦1.164 billion tranches, with the first already disbursed following Nigeria’s Pension Act. “With this intervention, the State Government has so far released a total of ₦1.4 billion to four institutions, bringing relief to hundreds of families,” Itua said, highlighting the administration’s welfare prioritization for citizens who served Edo State.

Okpebholo also approved ₦292 million as the second tranche for disengaged Colleges of Agriculture staff in Iguoriakhi and Agenebode, scheduled for payment by Wednesday. “This bold action reflects Governor Okpebholo’s vision of a just, fair and prosperous Edo State,” Itua added, emphasizing reforms repositioning Edo’s education sector while addressing past disengagements.
