EDO STATE GOVERNOR OKPEBHOLO THREATENS TO SACK NON-PERFORMING CONTRACTORS

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling ongoing projects across the state, threatening to terminate their contracts if they fail to meet project specifications and timelines. Governor Okpebholo made this clear during an inspection of some roads and drainage projects in the state, where he expressed disappointment over the slow execution rates.

Chief Press Secretary to Edo State Governor, Fred Itua, stated that the governor’s inspection tour took him to several project sites, including Orior-Ozolua Community, Orior Uteh Palace Road, New Uteh Road Ekiuwa Quarters, and Upper Ekenhuan open drain by Nigeria Army Cantonment. Itua noted that the governor was warmly received by residents, who thanked him for remembering them after being neglected by the previous administration.

At Orior-Ozolua Community, a resident, Mr. Sylvester Igbinovia, complained about the slow pace of work by the contractor handling the road and drainage projects. “Mr Governor, this contractor is just too slow on this job. They close before 2pm when they are on site, but most time they are not on site,” Igbinovia stated. Governor Okpebholo personally inspected the thickness of the drainage and was displeased that the contractor did not meet project specifications.

Fred Itua quoted Governor Okpebholo as saying, “Why did you reduce the width of the drain? You reduced it on both sides. Look at my face. If you are not doing the right thing and not working according to specifications, I can revoke the contract any moment without fear or favour.” The governor emphasized the need for quality work, stating that the resources belong to the people and must be utilized effectively and efficiently.

Itua stated that the governor’s inspection tour was aimed at ensuring that contractors adhere to project specifications and maintain high standards. Fred Itua noted that Governor Okpebholo has reaffirmed his commitment to providing motorable roads across the state, with a focus on infrastructure development.
