EUROPEAN LEADERS GATHER IN LONDON FOR UKRAINE SUMMIT

European leaders have begun arriving in London for a major summit to discuss security and support for Ukraine. The meeting comes after a fiery exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Friday.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer greeted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who said that Italy and the UK share a “similar mindset” on Ukraine. Other European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have also reiterated their support and desire for a lasting peace.

Starmer said the UK and France will work with Ukraine “on a plan to stop the fighting” with Russia and will then “discuss that plan” with the US. Zelensky will also meet King Charles III later today.

The summit aims to present a united European front in support of Ukraine, with leaders expected to discuss increased defense spending and security guarantees. However, the breakdown in relations between Ukraine and the US is likely to dominate the meeting.

As Alastair Campbell, former Labour spin doctor, noted, “We are lucky to have Keir Starmer there right now” to play a brokering role in the negotiations. Campbell also criticized Trump’s behavior, calling it “utterly disgusting” and a “massive mistake.”
The meeting comes as Ukraine reported at least two people killed in overnight strikes by Russia. The summit is seen as a crucial moment in the ongoing conflict, with European leaders seeking to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
