Extortion Scandal Rocks Seme Border as Immigration CG Suspends Top Officers
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended Comptrollers in charge of the Lagos–Seme border corridor following allegations of widespread extortion by its personnel.
The action was ordered by the Comptroller-General of the Service, Kemi Nandap, to pave the way for a thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations.
The move follows viral reports accusing immigration officers at the busy border post of engaging in extortion and other unethical practices.
In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, describing it as a breach of the agency’s ethical standards and operational guidelines.
The Service said it has commenced a full investigation to identify officers involved, assuring that anyone found culpable will face immediate disciplinary action.
It reiterated its commitment to professionalism and integrity, stressing that no act capable of eroding public trust will be tolerated within its ranks.
The NIS also called on members of the public to report any form of misconduct through its official complaint channels, as it intensifies efforts to enforce accountability and restore confidence in border operations.
