An FCT High Court has issued a bench warrant for the immediate arrest of former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), following his failure to appear in court for a scheduled hearing.

Presiding Judge Justice Keke Meke rejected a motion by Turaki’s legal team seeking to quash the charges, insisting there was no valid reason for his absence. The court emphasized that Turaki was fully aware of the proceedings and must face the law.

Turaki is accused of providing false information to the Nigeria Police Force. The Inspector General of Police is expected to ensure the former minister’s arraignment.

Initially assigned to a High Court in Zuba, the case was reassigned after Turaki failed to appear, prompting his lawyers to challenge the previous judge and request a transfer. During Thursday’s hearing, prosecution counsel Rabiu Umar opposed the defence’s application, while defence counsel Abdulaziz Ibrahim urged the court to dismiss the charges.

The court has adjourned the matter to April 22 for the formal arraignment of Turaki.
