FG Opens Applications for Second Phase of TVET Programme
The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, aimed at boosting skills acquisition and employment among Nigerians.
The disclosure was made by the Federal Ministry of Education in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the initiative is part of efforts to advance human capital development and equip citizens with practical, job-ready skills.
He noted that the first phase of the programme recorded significant interest, attracting over 1.3 million applications nationwide, reflecting growing demand for vocational training.
Alausa disclosed that the application portal opened on April 13, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. (WAT), encouraging Nigerians across age groups to take advantage of the opportunity.
According to details of the programme, applicants can choose between two tracks: a six-month Short-Term Certificate programme for beginners and a one-year Vocational Education and Innovation track for individuals with prior experience or training.
Participants are expected to provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN), while those applying for the advanced track may also submit proof of prior learning or educational qualifications.
The programme offers fully funded training, monthly stipends, hands-on practical experience, and nationally recognised certification upon completion. Beneficiaries will also have access to start-up support and business financing to establish enterprises.
Training areas include electrical installation, welding and fabrication, digital media, automobile repairs, fashion design, agriculture, and renewable energy.
Training centres have been established across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including federal and state technical colleges as well as accredited private institutions.
The TVET initiative forms part of the broader economic and employment strategy of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at reducing unemployment and strengthening the country’s skills development ecosystem.
