Flight Delays Hit Abuja Airport Over Baggage System Glitch

Passengers travelling through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport are expected to face delays following a temporary disruption affecting operations at the domestic terminals.

Airport management, in an operational update issued on Monday, said the disruption is linked to a technical fault in baggage screening equipment, which has slowed down standard processing procedures and is impacting boarding timelines.

The development is expected to cause longer wait times for passengers, particularly during baggage checks, although flights are still operating.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate passengers’ patience,” the management said, noting that efforts are underway to manage the situation.

To minimise the impact, alternative screening measures have been deployed using available equipment. However, officials warned that these additional processes could lead to further delays in departures.

Ground staff have also been mobilised to assist passengers, provide real-time updates, and prioritise affected flights as authorities work to resolve the issue.

The airport management assured travellers that it is collaborating with relevant authorities to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

It also apologised for the disruption, pledging to keep passengers informed as the situation improves.

The incident adds to concerns over infrastructure challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector, particularly as passenger traffic continues to rise.
