Lauretta Onochie, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has warned President Bola Tinubu of consequences for imposing emergency rule in Rivers State. Onochie issued the warning in a Wednesday night post on her Facebook page, stating that the “Niger Delta” people will punish Tinubu for alleged lawlessness in Rivers.

In March 2025, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Governor Sim Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and Assembly members for six months, appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas as administrator. The emergency rule was lifted on September 17, 2025, with Tinubu reinstating Fubara and others.

Onochie accused Tinubu of imposing an “illegal and unconstitutional emergency rule” in the oil-rich state. She wrote on Facebook: “Tinubu never thought that the 6 months of hell he illegally and unconstitutionally imposed on Rivers State will come to an end. That lawlessness will be punished in 2027 by Niger Deltans. We are set.”
