Fubara Visits Wike in Port Harcourt as Rivers Political Reconciliation Deepens

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has paid a visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at his residence in Port Harcourt, in what could further signal the deepening reconciliation between the two political heavyweights.

Fubara was accompanied by Dr Sam Sam Jaja during the visit on Sunday evening.

He was received at Wike’s Port Harcourt residence by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Hon Kingsley Chinda, and Senator Magnus Abe.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a series of reconciliation efforts aimed at bringing together Fubara, Wike and their respective political allies after years of bitter political differences in Rivers State.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has in recent weeks been at the centre of the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance seeking to consolidate various political interests in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development follows several meetings between Fubara and the Magnus Abe-led reconciliation committee of the coalition.

Fubara had earlier received the committee at the Government House in Port Harcourt, with Chinda and other political stakeholders participating in the engagement.

A subsequent meeting between the governor and members of the reconciliation committee saw Abe announce that significant progress had been made in efforts to restore peace and unity among the previously divided political family.

The committee also assured members that nobody would be victimised or discriminated against because of past political disagreements.

Fubara’s latest reported visit to Wike is therefore coming at a significant point in Rivers State politics, with the former political allies appearing to be moving closer after a prolonged period of confrontation.

The governor had previously declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition and endorsed Chinda, the APC governorship candidate, ahead of the 2027 election. Recent reports have described the emerging alignment as a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
