Ghana Fires Otto Addo After Poor Run, Two Months to World Cup

The Ghana Football Association has parted ways with head coach Otto Addo, just over two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision, confirmed on Tuesday, comes amid growing concerns over the performance of the Black Stars following a series of disappointing results in recent international friendlies.

Addo’s dismissal follows a poor run that saw Ghana suffer multiple defeats, including heavy losses to Austria and Germany. The team reportedly endured a four-match losing streak, raising doubts about their readiness for the upcoming World Cup.

In addition to the recent losses, Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations further intensified pressure on the coaching crew and the football federation to make decisive changes.

Addo, who had been in charge of the Black Stars across different spells, oversaw just over 20 matches, recording a mixed run of results that ultimately fell short of expectations.

Despite the coaching shake-up, Ghana remains qualified for the World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Black Stars have been drawn into a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The Ghana Football Association is now expected to appoint a new head coach in the coming weeks, as preparations intensify for the global tournament.

The late managerial change leaves Ghana in a race against time to stabilize the squad and build momentum ahead of one of football’s biggest stages.
