Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured Nigerians that state governors will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to crash food prices and ensure food security across the country. A press release signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Fred Itua, disclosed that Governor Okpebholo made this statement after a meeting with President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other state governors at the President’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos.

As noted by Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo reflected on the progress and challenges of the previous year, emphasizing the need for state executives to work together to tackle the country’s challenges. Governor Okpebholo acknowledged the current food crisis and stated that governors are working closely with President Tinubu to implement agricultural programs aimed at reducing food prices. He quoted President Tinubu as being passionate about the welfare of Nigerians and committed to addressing the country’s challenges.

As part of Edo State’s contribution to President Tinubu’s food sufficiency plan, Governor Okpebholo announced that over N70 billion has been earmarked in the 2025 budget for agricultural development. This includes initiatives such as massive mechanized farming and interest-free loans for market women. According to Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that these initiatives are designed to achieve food sufficiency in alignment with President Tinubu’s agricultural reforms.

Governor Okpebholo urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s reforms, stressing that they are aimed at addressing institutional defects and tackling the country’s long-standing problems.
