HOUSE COMMITTEE MEETS WITH RIVERS STATE SOLE ADMINISTRATOR AFTER MULTIPLE DELAYS

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Rivers State finally met with the Sole Administrator of the State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, on Friday, April 25, 2025, after several postponements. The meeting was held to discuss the current state of affairs in Rivers State, given the House’s constitutional authority to take over the duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Ibas had previously missed the meeting and apologized for his absence, requesting additional time to prepare for his briefing. “He explained that he was still settling into his new role and asked for the committee’s understanding,” sources said.
After Ibas’ request, journalists were asked to leave, and the meeting moved into a closed-door session. The meeting had been postponed last week following a formal request from Ibas, who was attending the National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This marked Ibas’ first appearance at the NEC since his appointment as Sole Administrator of Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025. The closed-door session is expected to provide an opportunity for the committee to engage with Ibas on key issues affecting the state.
