INEC Receives Sensitive Materials Ahead of FCT Area Council Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received all sensitive materials required for Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The handover took place Thursday at the Old CBN premises in Abuja under tight security, with heavily armed personnel present alongside representatives of political parties, civil society groups, journalists, and other stakeholders who monitored the process.
Materials collected include ballot papers, result sheets, and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.
FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu Idris, said all stakeholders were invited to witness the exercise to ensure transparency. He assured that the commission would conduct the elections in an open manner and carry all parties along throughout the process across the six Area Councils.
Idris added that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee the safe transportation of materials to Area Council offices, noting that distribution to Registration Area Centres would begin Friday.
He also appealed to residents of the territory to turn out in large numbers on Saturday to participate in the polls.
The development is seen as a key step in INEC’s logistical preparations, aimed at ensuring timely deployment of election materials and strengthening confidence in the electoral process ahead of voting day.
